About Melton City Council

Melton City Council is one of Australia’s fastest-growing municipalities, located in Melbourne’s thriving western growth corridor. With significant population growth and infrastructure investment underway, Council is focused on ensuring the right infrastructure is planned and delivered at the right time to support its rapidly growing communities.

This growth creates an exciting opportunity for an experienced infrastructure planning professional to play a key leadership role in shaping Melton’s long-term infrastructure priorities and future investment.

About The Role

Reporting to the Manager City Infrastructure Planning, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for shaping Melton’s long-term infrastructure planning and development.

A key focus will be coordinating and continually improving Council’s long-term capital works pipeline, bringing together growth forecasts, infrastructure priorities, financial considerations and project readiness to support confident investment decisions.

Working across Council, you will take a strategic view of future infrastructure needs, ensuring projects are appropriately planned, prioritised and aligned with Council’s broader financial and asset planning. You will work closely with capital works, community, open space, recreation and transport[AJ1] planning, development contributions and other internal teams to understand the bigger picture and help determine what infrastructure is required, when it is needed and how it can be delivered.

The role also has significant external influence, building relationships and negotiating with State Government, developers, statutory authorities and service agencies around major roads, rail, schools, community infrastructure, utilities and other infrastructure required to support population growth.

You will also oversee strategic land acquisition activities and contribute to the ongoing improvement of infrastructure planning, governance and decision-making across Council.

In return, Melton City Council offers a genuinely flexible and supportive working environment, including:

  • 5 weeks annual leave
  • 13 ADOs per annum
  • Genuine flexible work options and hybrid working arrangements
  • Extensive Career Development & Leadership Programs
  • Access to the Local Government Employee Health Plan (GMHBA) with exclusive benefits
  • 16 weeks Paid Parental Leave (superannuation paid during parental leave)
  • 3 weeks Paid Secondary Carer Leave
  • Wellbeing initiatives
About You

You are an experienced infrastructure planning professional who combines strong strategic thinking with the people and stakeholder skills required to operate across a complex growth environment.

You will bring a strong understanding of infrastructure planning, ideally gained within local government, consulting, State Government or a comparable environment. Experience across growth area planning, capital works planning, asset management, development contributions or strategic infrastructure investment will be highly regarded.

An understanding of Council budgeting and the relationship between capital works, long-term financial planning and asset management will enable you to confidently assess priorities and support long-term investment decisions.

Importantly, this role requires a strong people leader. You will be collaborative and approachable, with the ability to develop a capable team, manage performance and create clarity around priorities and expectations.

Strong communication and influencing skills will be essential, along with the ability to simplify complex information, build trusted relationships and bring different stakeholders together around long-term infrastructure outcomes.

Tertiary qualifications in engineering, project management, strategy, business management or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

Applications close Monday 28th September 2026.
