Job summary

City of Canterbury Bankstown Council seeks an experienced Coordinator, Fleet Management to steer strategic fleet planning, asset management and lifecycle programs. You will oversee procurement, fleet systems and disposal while guiding policy and budget development.

You will lead ongoing improvements, manage risk and safety compliance, and build a high-performing Fleet Administration team. This role supports a large NSW council focused on delivering reliable, fit-for-purpose fleet services.

Qualifications

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest councils in NSW with one of the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities. We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 385,000 residents.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fleet and asset management professional to shape the future of fleet operations. As Coordinator, Fleet Management, you’ll provide strategic leadership across fleet planning, whole-of-life asset management, fleet systems and asset replacement programs, ensuring the organisation’s fleet remains fit for purpose, sustainable and aligned with future needs.

You’ll lead key procurement and asset disposal programs, influence policy and financial management, and drive continuous improvement across the Unit. With the opportunity to work across strategic, operational and financial priorities, you’ll play a pivotal role in optimising fleet performance and delivering long-term value for the organisation.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

• Lead strategic fleet planning and asset management, including the 10-year replacement program, emerging technology assessment, and capital and operational budget development.
• Oversee fleet procurement, contracts and disposal, ensuring compliant, value-focused acquisition and disposal of vehicles, plant, equipment, parts and services, while managing supplier relationships and negotiations.
• Drive operational compliance and performance, overseeing fuel infrastructure, statutory requirements, record management and continuous improvement to ensure safe, efficient and fit-for-purpose fleet operations.
• Lead fleet systems, administration and compliance, overseeing fleet software, registration programs, policy development, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage risk, safety and operational requirements, including vehicle accidents and insurance, workplace health and safety, training compliance and stakeholder consultation.
• Lead and develop the Fleet Administration team, driving performance, capability, training and efficient delivery of fleet services.

You will have

• Relevant Fleet management or Business qualification and/or extensive fleet management experience.
• Experience in whole of life fleet and plant asset management including policies, programs and projects
• Experience in the development and management of capital and operational budgets
• Experience in end-to-end procurement processes for fleet and plant assets
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient and compliant operational outcomes
• Strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office suite, finance systems (eg SAP) and Fleet Management software (eg: AusFleet).
• Ability to manage a small team and deliver results that progress Councils plans and priorities
• Demonstrated ability in contributing to policy development and implementation
• Ability to model and lead a strong Work Health and Safety culture

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $119,961 (Grade I, Step1) + 12% super + Car Allowance. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
