Job summary

Honour Early Learning in Australia is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Cook to support our holistic centre with nutritious meals aligned to a rotating seasonal menu. You will work onsite with a dedicated nurse and catering team to deliver meals and snacks for children aged 0–5, ensuring high standards of hygiene and safety.

The role requires practical kitchen experience in childcare or similar settings, a Food Safety Supervisor certificate, Blue Card, and First Aid/CPR.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role, preferably in childcare or aged care setting
• Understanding of nutrition and dietary needs for children aged 0–5 years
• Current Food Safety Supervisor certificate
• Active and valid Blue Card
• First Aid and CPR certified

Responsibilities

• Meal Preparation: prepare and cook meals and snacks according to rotating seasonal menu and dietary requirements
• Maintain high hygiene and food safety standards, adhering to HACCP and centre plans
• Keep kitchen clean, organised, and well-stocked; manage storage and equipment
• Tailor meals for allergies, intolerances, and cultural/religious needs; update daily dietary lists
• Record keeping: maintain accurate food safety records including temperature checks and schedules
• Collaborate with Centre Manager, Educators, and Catering Manager to align meal service with programming
• Assist with special events and centre celebrations as needed

About you

Experience:

Minimum 1 years' experience in Early Childhood setting or 3 years' experience in similar industries.

Qualifications:

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (highly desirable)
• Experience in a similar role, preferably in a childcare or aged care setting
• Understanding of nutrition and dietary needs for children aged 0–5 years
• Current Food Safety Supervisor certificate
• Active and valid Blue Card
• First Aid and CPR certified

Your role as a Early Childhood Cook you will be responsible for

• Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals and snacks in accordance with the centre's rotating seasonal menu and individual dietary requirements.
• Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety, adhering to HACCP and centre-specific food safety plans and procedures.
• Kitchen Management: Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked kitchen; ensure food is stored correctly and equipment is maintained.
• Dietary Compliance: Tailor meals for children with allergies, intolerances, and cultural or religious dietary needs; update and follow daily dietary requirement lists.
• Record Keeping: Complete and maintain accurate food safety records including temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and dietary logs.
• Collaboration: Work in partnership with the Centre Manager, Educators, and the Catering Manager to align meal service with programming and daily schedules.
• Menu Feedback: Actively seek and respond to feedback from children, families, and staff to improve menu offerings and meal enjoyment. - Special Events: Assist with food preparation for centre events and celebrations when required.
