Job summary

Chandler Macleod Group is seeking an APS5 Content Designer for a Federal Government client on an initial 12-month contract with possible extension. You will develop and maintain high-quality, accessible content that helps users find information, understand services and complete tasks with confidence.

You will work with subject matter experts, policy teams and service owners to transform complex information into clear content while meeting Australian Government digital standards and accessibility

Qualifications

• Experience writing and editing clear, concise audience-focused content in plain English.
• Understanding of content design, digital communications and user-centred design principles.
• Experience with CMS, preferably GovCMS/Drupal.
• Knowledge of Australian Government digital standards and WCAG accessibility.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.

You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality website content that helps users find information, understand services, and complete tasks with confidence.

About the Role

As a Content Designer, you will support the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of digital content across web and online communication channels. Working within a collaborative digital environment, you will partner with subject matter experts, policy teams, service owners, and technical specialists to design content that is clear, accessible, and focused on user needs.
You will play a key role in transforming complex information into simple, engaging content while ensuring compliance with Australian Government digital standards and accessibility requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, edit and publish digital content using content management systems, including GovCMS.
• Develop clear, concise and user-focused content written in plain English.
• Conduct content reviews, audits and remediation activities to improve quality and consistency.
• Apply content design principles and best practice digital communication standards.
• Work closely with stakeholders to gather information and convert complex material into accessible content.
• Support website governance activities, publishing workflows and content lifecycle management.
• Contribute to user research, usability testing and content improvement initiatives.
• Assist in developing information architecture and content structures that improve the user experience.
• Ensure content aligns with accessibility requirements and government digital standards.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Experience writing and editing clear, concise, audience-focused content in plain English.
• Understanding of content design, digital communications and user-centred design principles.
• Experience working with content management systems, preferably Drupal or GovCMS.
• Knowledge of the Australian Government Digital Service Standard, Style Manual and WCAG accessibility requirements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Highly Desirable

• Qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Professional Writing, Digital Media, Marketing, Public Relations or a related discipline.
• Experience using web analytics tools such as Google Analytics.
• Understanding of SEO principles and writing content for digital channels.
• Experience working in Agile or multidisciplinary digital delivery teams.

Security Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
