Job description

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

As the Consulting Architect you will play a pivotal role in shaping enterprise‑wide ICT strategies for major enterprise customers, combining deep technical expertise with strong business acumen. You will bring broad knowledge across telecommunications, IT, applications, and complex migration challenges to design solutions that solve real business problems. With a focus on high‑value, whole‑of‑business outcomes, the role positions technology as a strategic enabler for customer growth and transformation.

As the overall solution owner for major engagements, you will lead multidisciplinary technical teams and draw on wider Optus Enterprise capability to craft sophisticated proposals. You will define solution roadmaps, articulate compelling value propositions, and influence senior stakeholders—both internally and at the C‑suite level—through clear, confident communication. This includes driving major bids, shaping integrated technology and commercial solutions, and ensuring alignment across all streams of a customer engagement.

In this high customer‑facing role, you will have exceptional presentation skills, innovative thinking, and the ability to build strong, enduring relationships with executive leaders. By providing ongoing strategic guidance and enterprise-wide consultancy, as the Consulting Architect you will ensure customers receive future‑ready ICT solutions that are both technically robust and commercially compelling.

What You will Do

  • Build and maintain strong executive‑level customer relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to guide long‑term strategic engagement.
  • Lead strategic account planning, developing technology strategies, transformation roadmaps, and whole‑of‑business ICT consultancy.
  • Own the end‑to‑end solution architecture, designing complex and non‑standard enterprise solutions and coordinating virtual teams of specialists.
  • Oversee the technical development of bids and proposals, ensuring responses are accurate, commercially viable, and delivered within deadlines.
  • Collaborate with vendors, product teams, and engineering groups to align solutions with market capabilities and influence future offerings.
  • Maintain deep market, technology, and competitor insight, providing customers with thought‑leadership updates and ensuring Optus maintains a competitive advantage.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Extensive experience in ICT and telecommunications, providing high‑level technical consulting and architectural support to enterprise customers.
  • Degree or formal qualification in Telecommunications or Information Technology, supported by relevant industry/vendor certifications (e.g., Cisco).
  • Strong background in enterprise‑wide ICT architecture, with proficiency in service management and architectural frameworks such as ITIL and TOGAF.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into strategic ICT solutions, clearly articulating value propositions to senior stakeholders and C‑suite executives.
  • Proven capability in developing long‑term customer relationships, strategic account planning, and leading large design or RFT response teams.
  • Advanced commercial, risk, and contract understanding, with the ability to engage in financial modelling and ROI discussions.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, including the ability to influence at executive levels.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and technology proficiency, with advanced skills across productivity tools and ICT systems.
