Boyd Recruitment is seeking a Product & Purchasing Manager for a timber and hardware distribution operation in Australia. You will own end‑to‑end purchasing, manage stock flow, supplier relationships and commercial outcomes, and work with sales and warehouse to keep products flowing.

You’ll stay close to forecasting, margin management and data integrity in ERP systems, with a focus on reducing shortages and improving stock turns across local and overseas suppliers.

Qualifications

• Experience in purchasing, product, category or buying roles.
• Timber, hardware, building materials or wholesale experience.
• Negotiation skills that get results.
• Strong forecasting and inventory‑planning instincts.
• Experience with local and overseas suppliers.
• Comfort with imports, freight and landed‑cost calculations.

Responsibilities

• Own purchasing from supplier to customer.
• Keep stock levels tight — not too much, not too little.
• Build strong relationships with local and overseas suppliers.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, rebates and deals that actually make sense.
• Plan POs, imports and container loads.
• Keep lead times, quality and supplier performance in check.
• Manage costs, landed costs and margins.
• Improve the range and spot new product opportunities.
• Stop shortages before they happen.
• Clean out slow‑moving stock.
• Lift stock turns and working‑capital efficiency.
• Work closely with sales and warehouse to keep things flowing.
• Keep ERP data clean (no messy spreadsheets here).
• Support pricing decisions and communicate cost changes.
• Sort out supplier or product issues quickly.
• Produce clear reports that help the business make smart decisions.
