Role Description

The Configuration Manager is a Systems Engineering role that supports Program Delivery teams by ensuring customer and internally generated requirements, technical design basis information, design outputs, and physical assets remain controlled, traceable, and auditable throughout the Program lifecycle.

The role is responsible for establishing and maintaining configuration baselines, supporting requirements traceability, managing design and document information, maintaining system architectures, and supporting change control and assurance activities.

The Configuration Manager will establish and maintain the Program's Configuration Management Framework and work closely with delivery and design teams to maintain configuration integrity while supporting Program objectives.

  • Configuration Management Framework
  • Develop and maintain the Program Configuration Management Plan and supporting procedures, processes, templates, and work instructions.
  • Define Configuration Items (CIs), configuration baselines, and configuration status accounting requirements.
  • Ensure configuration management practices comply with Program, Client, quality, governance, and systems engineering requirements.
  • Requirements and Architecture Configuration Management
  • Establish and maintain configuration control of Program requirements and associated baselines.
  • Support administration of the DOORS NG environment, including baselining activities.
  • Ensure requirements are uniquely identified, version controlled, approved, allocated, and traceable throughout the lifecycle.
  • Support requirements change assessment and impact analysis.
  • Establish and maintain the Program’s functional, physical, and systems architectures.
  • Maintain configuration control of architectural models, interfaces, diagrams, and related artefacts.
  • Baselining, Traceability and Assurance
  • Establish and maintain Program baselines including requirements, architectures, interfaces, safety artefacts, assumptions, verification artefacts, Change Proposals, and design deliverables.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability between requirements, architectures, interfaces, and design solutions.
  • Generate traceability reports and support verification, validation, design reviews, and assurance activities.
  • Change Control Management
  • Support configuration change control for all baselined artefacts.
  • Support Change Management Working Group activities and impact assessments.
  • Monitor Change Proposals and engineering changes.
  • Ensure approved changes are correctly implemented, traceable, and reflected within affected baselines and documentation.
  • Work closely with the Change Management Lead to support the overall Baseline and Change Management Process
  • Document and Information Control
  • Maintain configuration control of Program documentation and design information.
  • Ensure controlled documents are appropriately versioned, reviewed, approved, distributed, archived, and tracked.
  • Maintain document registers, configuration status records, and baseline release records.
  • Monitor compliance with document management requirements and naming conventions.
  • Configuration Identification and Status Accounting
  • Identify and register all Configuration Items, including physical assets and Items Important to Nuclear Safety.
  • Maintain configuration status records and associated schedules or registers.
  • Report on baseline maturity, requirements progression, document status, and configuration performance metrics.
  • Audits and Assurance
  • Plan and conduct configuration audits to verify compliance with approved baselines and processes.
  • Support internal and external assurance activities.
  • Identify configuration discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Support requirements and design assurance activities to ensure alignment with approved requirements and change decisions.
  • Systems Engineering Integration
  • Work closely with Systems Engineers, Design Managers, and Discipline Leads to maintain configuration integrity.
  • Support requirements management, traceability, interface management, design assurance, and review activities.
  • Promote the consistent application of configuration management practices across Program teams and delivery partners.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Provide configuration management guidance, training, and mentoring to Program teams.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on configuration matters.
  • Support Program governance forums and provide regular configuration management reporting.
  • Work with Program Directors to ensure configuration management supports both design and construction activities.
  • Construction Support
  • Configuration management activities will continue throughout construction, with responsibilities refined as the Program progresses. Key activities include:
  • Establishing and maintaining functional, allocated, construction, and as-built baselines.
  • Supporting change management during construction.
  • Maintaining Configuration Status Records for all Configuration Items.
  • Supporting construction assurance and traceability activities.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience with industry standard requirements management tools, preferably IBM Rational DOORS NG.
  • Experience in configuration management within defence, infrastructure, or complex engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting design reviews, baseline management, audits, and change control processes.
  • Understanding of systems engineering and requirements management principles.
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organisational and stakeholder management capability.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
