Job summary

Independence Australia is seeking compassionate Support Workers in Melbourne to assist a customer living with complex physical needs. The role focuses on dignity, independence, and respectful personal support within the client’s home and community.

Responsibilities include personal care, specialized urinary and bowel care, safe manual handling with mobility equipment, and light domestic tasks. Sleepover shifts are included, and a driver’s licence with good communication is required.

Qualifications

• Experienced in high-needs personal care and confident in bowel/urinary care procedures.
• Skilled in manual handling and happy to operate mobility equipment (training provided as needed).
• Respectful of client autonomy, privacy, cultural background, and personal beliefs.
• Comfortable with sleepover support hours.
• Holds a valid driver’s licence, communicates well, and is committed to delivering high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care including showering, grooming, dressing, and support with meals and hydration.
• Deliver specialised bowel and urinary care (including stoma and catheter support).
• Assist with manual handling safely, including the use of hoists and other mobility equipment.
• Carry out light domestic duties including general cleaning, kitchen tasks, waste disposal, and maintaining a clean support-worker area and bathroom.
• Community access.
