Job summary

City of Palmerston is seeking a Community Connections Officer to strengthen connections across Palmerston by applying a strong understanding of community engagement, equity principles, and capacity building.

You will plan, deliver, and evaluate community programs and projects that respond to local needs and align with Council’s values and priorities. The role reports to the Community Services Manager and involves collaboration with stakeholders and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Diploma-level qualification in community development or a project-related discipline.
  • At least 3 years’ practical experience working with community groups and delivering projects.
  • Experience designing community programs and facilitating meetings with stakeholders.
  • Ability to monitor trends and evolving community needs through engagement.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a team with technology familiarity.

About the role

This role sits within the Community Directorate and reports to the Community Services Manager. You will work closely with internal teams, community organisations, and government partners to strengthen connections across Palmerston, applying a strong understanding of community engagement, equity principles, and capacity building.

You will plan, deliver, and evaluate community programs and projects that respond to local needs and align with Council’s values and priorities, contributing to long-term community strategies. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders, supporting networks and partnerships, providing strategic advice, and coordinating project timelines, budgets, reporting, and funding applications to ensure initiatives are effective and sustainable.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have a minimum Diploma-level qualification in community development or a project-related discipline. You bring at least 3 years’ practical experience working with community groups, designing and delivering community-based projects, and facilitating meetings and networks with internal and external stakeholders.

Part of the role is keeping up-to-date of community needs and emerging trends through ongoing community engagement, stakeholder relationships, and environmental factors.

You work effectively both independently and as part of a team, are confident with technology, and thrive on engaging and connecting with people.
