Job summary

ABB Energy Industries Division is seeking an Excitation commissioning engineer to lead commissioning on projects of varying complexity. You will work with project managers, site teams and customers to ensure safety, quality and on-time delivery.

The role requires 5+ years with ABB excitation systems (UNITROL/SYNCHROTACT), strong English communication, and PSCAD experience. You will mentor junior staff, create standard processes and coach teams toward safe practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience on ABB Excitation system engineering and commissioning (UNITROL and SYNCHROTACT families) or equivalent.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

Your role and responsibilities

Act as Excitation commissioning engineer of projects with low to medium complexity.

Ensure completion of all commissioning activities efficiently and cost-effectively, in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

• Contribute to planning and implementation of Excitation/Synchro commissioning/engineering activities, identifying and developing new processes, techniques and solutions to meet current and emerging customer and business needs
• Participate in internal project review meetings and provide technical inputs while managing customer relations at senior levels to deliver customized solutions that meet project requirements
• Ensure approval of plant acceptance criteria, open issues closure, performance tests and adherence to safety standards
• Lead risk and opportunity assessments for assigned projects, identify and report potential risks, evaluate mitigation options, and conduct Safety Observation tours to mitigate HSE hazards
• Impart training and coach project teams towards safe working practices, contribute to continuous improvement of project processes, and actively share lessons learned to the knowledge repository
• Create standard processes, tools, work plans and cost estimates in line with strategic priorities, ensuring all commissioning activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements
• Support Project Managers/Site Managers in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications etc.) and may manage commissioning teams as required
• Manage external organizations to ensure availability of commissioning equipment, systems, or services in coordination with Supply Chain function, Project Manager and/or Site Manager

Your role involves mentoring junior team members while supporting senior leadership in delivering complex projects on schedule and within budget. Qualifications for the role

• More than 5 years of experience on small, medium and large ABB Excitation system (UNITROL and SYNCHROTACT family) engineering and commissioning, or equivalent experience with other similar systems
• Holding certification on ABB excitation system commissioning will be given first preference
• Collaborative, solution-focused approach
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in English
• Grid code models simulation software experiences (PSCAD & other)
