Job summary

The Star Sydney’s Harvest Buffet is seeking a Commis Chef to support and potentially lead kitchen sections, under the guidance of the Sous Chef.

Ideally you are a culinary graduate with a Commercial Cookery apprenticeship, skilled in various cooking techniques and high-volume service, and flexible to a rotating roster including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Culinary School Graduate with apprenticeship in Commercial Cookery.
• Strong skills in diverse food preparation methods and equipment.
• Experience in high-volume kitchens and ability to adapt to changing menus.

Responsibilities

• Support or lead the assigned section as directed by the Jr Sous Chef and provide training to junior staff members.
• Assist with fundamental cooking and food preparation tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and workstations.
• Complete all duties in line with company and statutory hygiene requirements.
• Meet requirements for consistency and high quality in a fast-paced environment.

What we are looking for:

• Culinary School Graduate. Received apprenticeship training in Commercial Cookery
• Proficiency with diverse food preparation techniques and cooking equipment
• Experience post apprenticeship in food preparation, preferably with a range of various cuisines and high-volume setting, with strong communication skills and understanding of relevant liquor laws
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
