Job summary

NRMA Parks & Resorts is hiring multiple casual Commis Chefs to join our Strahan Kitchen teams for the busy summer season in Strahan, Tasmania. You’ll work across venues including View 42 Restaurant & Lounge Bar, Hamer's Bar & Bistro, and The Kitchen Cafe, delivering high-quality dishes and maintaining food safety standards.

Commitment for at least six months is preferred, with staff accommodation available.

Qualifications

• Formal qualifications in commercial cookery.
• DoFoodSafely certificate of completion.
• Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in kitchen operations.
• A passion for your trade and for creating and presenting contemporary dishes using local produce.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• The ability to work productively in a fast-paced, buzzing work environment, dealing with a high volume of covers in a short period of time.
• Flexible attitude to work hours over a 7 day roster, including weekends and public holidays

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Senior Chef on shift undertake cooking, baking, pastry cooking or butchering duties, as required to a consistently high standard.
• Assist with maintaining the general cleanliness of the kitchen area and equipment.
• Assist with the training of Kitchen Attendant staff

Job Description

What you’ll do:

As a casual Commis Chef you'll have the opportunity to work in one or more of our unique food and beverage venues, each offering a distinct guest experience:

View 42 Restaurant& Lounge Baris a popular dining destination known for its hearty breakfast and dinner buffets, attracting tour groups and larger bookings. The adjoining Lounge Bar offers premium cocktails, Tasmanian wines and small plates.

Hamer's Bar & Bistrois a relaxed and welcoming venue serving classic pub and bistro favourites, alongside a selection of local Tasmanian wines, beers and spirits. Popular with both guests and locals, it's known for its genuine hospitality and laid-back West Coast charm.

The Kitchen Cafeis a casual all-day dining venue offering barista-made coffee, light meals and convenient grab-and-go options. With its friendly atmosphere and relaxed setting, it's a favourite spot for guests to start their day or enjoy a leisurely lunch.

No matter which venue you're working in, you'll produce high-quality food, uphold food safety and presentation standards, and contribute to the smooth operation of a busy kitchen. During peak periods, you'll confidently multitask, work efficiently as part of a team and maintain high service standards in a fast-paced environment.

On a daily basis your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
