Job summary

BUMA Australia is seeking a Commercial Superintendent to join the Blackwater team. You will partner with the Project Manager and site leadership to support cost control, planning, contract performance, claims and commercial outcomes, while leading the site administration team.

Key responsibilities include budgeting, monthly reporting, and overseeing close processes with a focus on safety and continuous improvement. A strong background in mining operations and ERP systems is essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business or related discipline.
• CPA or CA qualification.
• 7+ years' experience in commercial finance, management accounting, or project commercial roles in mining or similar complex operations.
• Experience with SAP or comparable ERP; advanced Excel; exposure to Power BI or similar reporting tools.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, analytical capability and clear communication.
• Leadership capability, integrity and sound judgement under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly financial reporting and lead monthly project performance reviews.
• Lead monthly claims and variations process from preparation to payment.
• Monitor project costs, cost drivers and committed expenditure; identify adverse trends and drive corrective actions.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting including operational, workforce, plant, revenue, cost, cash flow and capital assumptions.
• Oversee month-end close, balance sheet control, data integrity and audit requirements.
• Lead and develop the site administration team and foster relationships with client and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and integrate safety and risk into commercial decisions.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Commercial Superintendent to join our Blackwater team. As the senior finance and commercial leader at the project, you will partner with the Project Manager and site leadership team to support cost control, reliable planning, contract performance, claims and commercial outcomes, effective controls and continuous business improvement, while leading the site administration team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly financial and operational reporting and lead monthly project performance reviews.
• Lead the monthly claims and variations process from preparation and submission through to certification, approval and payment.
• Monitor project costs, cost drivers and committed expenditure, identify adverse trends and drive corrective action.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting, incorporating operational, workforce, plant, revenue, cost, cash flow and capital assumptions.
• Oversee month-end close, balance sheet control, data integrity, financial controls and audit requirements.
• Lead and develop the site administration team and build collaborative relationships with the client and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrate visible safety leadership and integrate safety and risk considerations into commercial decisions and team practices.

About You:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business or a related discipline.
• CPA or CA qualification.
• At least seven years' experience in commercial finance, management accounting, business performance or project commercial roles, preferably in mining, resources, infrastructure or a similarly complex operational environment.
• Demonstrated experience in cost management, planning, performance reporting, contract administration, claims, variations and subcontractor management.
• Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP, advanced Excel capability and exposure to Power BI or similar reporting tools.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, analytical capability, contract judgement and clear communication and influencing skills.
• Leadership capability, integrity, attention to detail and sound judgement under pressure and ambiguity.

Blackwater Mine

Located in Central Queensland, Blackwater Mine is one of the state's largest coal mines, just 21 km from Blackwater. BUMA Australia has been delivering truck and excavator pre-strip operations at the mine since 2012, moving more than 35 million BCM of material annually. The fleet includes Komatsu 930E and Caterpillar 789C haul trucks, paired with Hitachi EX8000, Caterpillar 6060 and Hitachi EX3600 excavators.
