Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide commercial advice and independent reviews across a portfolio of construction projects.
• Review contractual variations, including entitlement, supporting evidence, valuation methods and recommendations.
• Review notices, variation directions, completion notices and letters of acceptance for contractual compliance.
• Identify contractual risks, commercial exposure, inconsistencies and improvement opportunities.
• Act as escalation point for complex commercial issues, disputed variations and disputes.
• Provide contract interpretation and risk advice with practical resolution strategies.
• Support project teams with contractual negotiations and matters requiring formal legal advice.
• Develop and deliver training and guidance to improve contract administration across teams.
• Develop templates, checklists and processes to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Review standard government construction contracts and suggest improvements to risk allocation and outcomes.

An exciting contract opportunity is available for an experienced Construction Commercial Manager to join a Queensland Government infrastructure delivery team, providing specialist commercial advice and support across a portfolio of construction projects.

This role will play a key part in strengthening contract administration practices, reviewing complex contractual matters, supporting the resolution of commercial issues and improving the capability of project delivery teams.

Working closely with senior leadership and project delivery professionals, you will provide independent commercial oversight and practical guidance to ensure construction contracts are effectively administered and potential risks are appropriately managed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide commercial advice and independent reviews across a portfolio of construction projects
• Review and assess contractual variations, including entitlement, supporting evidence, valuation methods and recommendations.
• Review contractual correspondence, notices, variation directions, completion notices and letters of acceptance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
• Identify contractual risks, commercial exposure, inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Act as an escalation point for complex commercial issues, disputed variations and emerging contractual disputes.
• Provide contract interpretation and commercial risk advice, recommending practical resolution strategies.
• Support project teams with contractual negotiations and the preparation of matters requiring formal legal advice.
• Develop and deliver training, coaching and practical guidance to improve contract administration capability across project teams.
• Develop standardized templates, checklists and processes to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Review standard government construction contracts and recommend improvements to contractual arrangements, risk allocation and project delivery outcomes.

Successful Candidate

To be successful in this position, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience in commercial management and administration of Australian construction contracts.
• Strong knowledge and experience in construction contract management, particularly variation assessments, contractual notices and dispute resolution.
• The ability to interpret contractual provisions and assess commercial risks and entitlements.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide independent, practical advice on complex contractual matters.
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear commercial recommendations and contractual correspondence.
• Experience supporting project managers, superintendents and delivery teams with contract administration.
• The ability to identify opportunities to improve processes, documentation and contract management practices.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to coach and build capability across project delivery teams.
