About Us

CMP Consulting Group (CMP) brings together expertise across civil, structural, mechanical, process and electrical engineering and delivers projects across the full asset lifecycle, from planning and concept development through detailed design, construction and commissioning. We are part of Vysarn Ltd (ASX:VYS), a growing network of businesses focused on integrated water and infrastructure services. We are leaders in the water industry, and we are passionate about the impact we can have for Australian communities through our work. Everything we do, we do to provide excellent, long-lasting outcomes for our clients and the customers that we serve.

About the role

This new full-time Commercial Manager role will be responsible for strengthening the commercial, financial and contractual management of CMP's projects. Importantly, this is not solely a contract or finance role; the successful candidate will bring a substantial project management background, enabling them to understand the commercial implications of project performance from the perspective of someone who has managed projects.

This role will be based in our Mulgrave office, however, we are a national business and will consider alternate CMP office locations.

Experience

The successful candidate will have substantial experience across project management, commercial management, financial management and contract management within an engineering, infrastructure, construction or consulting environment.

Essential experience includes
  • Significant experience managing projects, including responsibility for scope, schedule, resources, cost, risk, quality and client relationships.
  • Strong experience managing the financial performance of projects, including budgets, forecasting, cost-to-complete, revenue, margin, cash flow, Work In Progress and financial reporting.

  • Experience developing and implementing commercial processes, systems, governance frameworks and project controls.
  • Experience reviewing project performance and identifying trends, variances, risks, opportunities and corrective actions.

Project Management

  • Strong understanding of project controls, performance measurement, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Ability to identify the commercial consequences of project scope changes, programme delays, resource issues and delivery risks.
Commercial Management
  • Strong understanding of commercial management at a business and organisational level, with the ability to understand how individual projects and business activities contribute to business performance.
  • Understanding of P&L management, including revenue, gross margin, operating costs, overheads, profitability and the key commercial drivers influencing business performance.
  • Experience in Work in Progress (WIP) management, including WIP ageing, unbilled revenue, accrued revenue, billing performance and the identification and resolution of aged or at-risk WIP.
  • Ability to analyse and manage the relationship between project performance, revenue recognition, WIP, cash flow, margin and overall business profitability.
  • Experience managing and reporting on business-level commercial performance, including revenue, margin, utilisation, backlog, pipeline, cash flow, debtor performance and other relevant commercial KPIs.
  • Experience developing or reviewing commercial models, pricing strategies, fee structures and financial assumptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, improve and maintain commercial management frameworks, systems, processes and reporting across an organisation.
Contract Management
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts and contract administration.
  • Significant experience reviewing, negotiating and administering professional services, engineering, consultancy, construction and/or infrastructure contracts.
