The Company

Civmec is an Australian-owned, integrated, multidisciplinary heavy engineering and construction services provider to the energy, resources, infrastructure, marine and defence sectors. Our diversification enables us to operate extensively across the nation, supporting a wide range of landmark projects and providing variety and career development opportunities for our workforce.

Join the Civmec Team

Civmec is expanding its Commercial team to support an exciting pipeline of upcoming projects. We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to initially lead the commercial function on a recently secured project, driving commercial success through strong team leadership, proactive client engagement and effective project delivery in a fast-paced environment.

You will be a key member of the project management team, with the opportunity to contribute to a commercial function establishing itself as industry leading in strength, consistency and culture. We are looking for someone who wants to build a lasting career with Civmec, add value through strong commercial acumen, and help shape a high-performing, collaborative and commercially disciplined team environment. You will play a central role in driving commercial and project outcomes while managing key relationships with project stakeholders and taking a proactive, pragmatic approach to risk, contractual obligations and the relationships between Civmec, its clients and suppliers. This role offers flexibility for both FIFO and Henderson-based arrangements.

The Role

Provide strong commercial leadership across all project commercial and contractual functions, including:

  • Lead head contract administration and compliance, including the timely identification, preparation and submission of notices, claims, contractual correspondence and entitlement submissions.
  • Drive the commercial strategy, preparation, negotiation and closeout of variations, extensions of time and remeasurement claims, ensuring entitlements are protected and project outcomes are maximised.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor procurement, engagement and commercial administration, ensuring appropriate risk allocation, contract formation, performance management and closeout discipline.
  • Provide practical contractual and commercial guidance to the project team, supporting informed decision-making, early risk identification and disciplined compliance with head contract and subcontract obligations.
  • Manage cashflow, progress claims, quantity remeasurement processes, client payment cycles and associated project reporting to support predictable commercial performance.
  • Oversee project cost control and commercial reporting, including monthly forecasts, cost-to-complete analysis, cashflow forecasting, supplier liabilities and commercial risk registers.
  • Establish and maintain robust systems, registers and governance processes to ensure variations, contract adjustments, risks, opportunities and commercial actions are identified, tracked and recovered throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Undertake and oversee complex commercial, contractual and strategic matters requiring sound judgement, strong written advocacy and senior-level engagement with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
  • Lead, mentor and develop the project commercial team, fostering accountability, collaboration, commercial discipline and a high-performance culture across the project.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong combination of commercial leadership, major project delivery experience and practical contractual capability, including:

  • A tertiary qualification in law, quantity surveying, engineering, construction management or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior commercial leadership role on major construction, resources, infrastructure or heavy engineering projects.
  • At least 10 years' experience in the delivery of major projects, including commercial leadership responsibility on mega-projects exceeding AUD 200
  • Proven experience leading, developing and managing commercial teams of more than five people, with the ability to set clear standards, build capability and create a disciplined, accountable team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear commercial positions, influence stakeholders and support effective project decision-making.
