Job description

About Zinfra

Zinfra is a leading partner in the design, build, operation and maintenance of Australia’s energy and utilities infrastructure. Delivering over $1B portfolio annually, the work we do is essential to bringing energy to our communities safely and reliably, while powering the nation’s energy transition. With a diverse workforce of more than 2,300, we expertly deliver our services across Australia.

About the role

We’re looking for a commercially astute Commercial Lead to support the delivery of the Central-West Orana project, partnering closely with operational teams, subcontractors and our client, Transgrid. This is a pivotal role focused on protecting project value, managing commercial risk and driving strong contract outcomes across a major infrastructure program.

You’ll lead commercial strategy throughout project delivery, ensuring robust management of notices, variations, payment claims and contractual obligations in a complex lump-sum environment. Working directly with project teams, you’ll provide trusted commercial advice, strengthen governance, mentor stakeholders and help build commercial capability across the business.

Success in this role will come from your attention to detail, ability to navigate client‑facing commercial discussions, and proven experience managing contract administration and risk during delivery. If you thrive in a fast‑paced project environment and enjoy influencing outcomes on large‑scale infrastructure projects, we’d love to hear from you.

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Leading the commercial strategy across a major infrastructure project, partnering with operational teams to protect value, manage risk and drive successful contract outcomes.
  • Managing client and subcontractor relationships, negotiating commercial outcomes and resolving issues before they escalate.
  • Driving the effective administration of contractual mechanisms, including notices, variations, payment claims, change management and commercial correspondence.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies and supporting the achievement of project and business performance objectives.
  • Partnering closely with Project Managers, Engineers and Delivery leaders to strengthen commercial decision‑making.
  • Overseeing contract administration resources and commercial reporting, ensuring accurate records, compliance and strong commercial controls are maintained.
  • Championing continuous improvement initiatives, capturing lessons learned and enhancing commercial processes, systems and best‑practice contract management across the business.
About you

To be selected for interview, your resume should highlight proven commercial leadership experience within energy, utilities, construction or major infrastructure projects. You will demonstrate expertise managing complex contracts, variations, claims and commercial risk during project delivery, ideally within lump‑sum environments. Experience partnering with clients and subcontractors while maintaining robust governance, compliance and commercial outcomes will be highly regarded.

Ensure your resume shares details of:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in commercial, finance, legal or operational roles within energy, utilities, construction or infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading commercial activities on major project delivery programs.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, commercial governance frameworks, risk allocation principles and contract law.
  • Experience managing subcontractor contract administration, change management, claims and variations.
  • Sound understanding of commercial risk management, enterprise risk frameworks and the relationship between commercial, financial and operational outcomes.
