Job summary

FMS Group based in Mackay is seeking an experienced Commercial Estimator to support fabrication, mechanical works and major equipment shutdown projects. You will review project requirements, prepare detailed cost estimates and work closely with internal teams and suppliers to deliver competitive commercial solutions.

You’ll calculate labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs, prepare quotations, tenders and pricing submissions, and identify cost risks and opportunities to improve

• Experience in estimating across fabrication and mechanical works.
• Ability to read technical drawings, specs and scopes of work.
• Strong commercial awareness with competitive pricing.
• Experience with tenders and quotations for shutdowns or projects.

Responsibilities

• Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a range of fabrication, mechanical and major equipment shutdown projects.
• Reviewing project scopes, technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation to determine requirements.
• Calculating labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs to develop detailed estimates.
• Preparing quotations, tenders and pricing submissions in line with client and project requirements.
• Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and confirm availability of materials and services.
• Working closely with internal teams to understand project requirements, resources and delivery timeframes.
• Identifying potential risks, cost variations and opportunities to improve project profitability.
• Reviewing and analysing costs to ensure estimates are commercially competitive and achievable.
• Building and maintaining positive working relationships with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Maintaining accurate estimating records, pricing information and supporting documentation.

FMS Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercial Estimator to join our team based in Mackay.

We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented professional with a diverse background in fabrication, mechanical works and major equipment shutdown projects. You'll bring a practical understanding of the industry, strong commercial awareness and the ability to prepare accurate and competitive estimates across a variety of projects.

You’ll play an important role in supporting our operations by reviewing project requirements, preparing cost estimates and working closely with internal teams and suppliers to deliver competitive and commercially sound solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a range of fabrication, mechanical and major equipment shutdown projects.

About You

You're a commercially minded professional with a strong understanding of fabrication, mechanical works and major equipment shutdown projects. You take pride in producing accurate estimates, enjoy working across a variety of projects and have the confidence to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.

You’ll bring:

• Demonstrated experience in estimating across both fabrication and mechanical works.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to develop accurate and competitive pricing.
• The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
• A sound understanding of labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn estimating software and systems.
• A proactive, practical approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience that will be highly regarded:

• A trade qualification or technical background in mechanical fitting, boilermaking, fabrication or a related discipline.
• Previous estimating experience within the mining, engineering or heavy industrial sectors.
• Experience preparing tenders and quotations for shutdowns, maintenance or project works.
• Experience using estimating software or commercial project management systems.
