About the role
Commercial Development Manager

As part of AGL's Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Customers business, we help some of Australia's largest and most energy-intensive businesses meet their energy needs today and plan for tomorrow. We work closely with customers, partners and teams across AGL, and we help businesses navigate the energy transition as a trusted energy partner.

As the Commercial Development Manager, you will find, develop and grow long-term opportunities in the Data Centre sector and other high-value customer segments. Rather than chasing short-term sales, you will set up future revenue by building strategic relationships, entering new markets and shaping customer investment decisions early. You will also build a strong pipeline of future opportunities, positioning AGL as a trusted partner in the energy transition.

What's in it for you
  • Flexibility that works for you, with a range of flexible working options including hybrid working and flexible hours.
  • More time for what matters, with purchased leave of up to six additional weeks and an extra week of Recharge Leave for eligible employees.
  • Benefits beyond your salary, including discounted energy, telco and solar plans, employee share plans, wellbeing programs and a range of corporate offers and discounts.

In this role, you will be accountable for

  • Develop and deliver market growth strategies for data centres and other targeted high-value growth sectors.
  • Identify emerging industry trends, customer needs, investment plans and technology developments that create new commercial opportunities. Assess market attractiveness, customer potential and competitive positioning to guide strategic investment decisions.
  • Build a deep understanding of customers' business drivers, operating models and future infrastructure needs. Engage early in their project planning, investment and design to influence their thinking.
  • Identify, establish and manage strategic partnerships with developers, technology providers, engineering firms, consultants, industry associations and other ecosystem participants. These partnerships should benefit both sides, extend AGL's market reach and open up future opportunities.
  • Represent AGL in strategic industry forums, advisory groups and key stakeholder engagements.
  • Develop opportunity pathways that move smoothly into the sales pipeline. Monitor industry developments and competitor activity to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
Who We're Looking For
  • Significant experience in commercial development, business development, strategic partnerships or market development, ideally in energy, utilities, infrastructure, technology or telecommunications, with proven success opening new growth markets and customer segments.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to evaluate strategic and financial opportunities and understand wholesale market drivers and competitor behaviour.
  • Deep understanding of the data centre market and the wider digital infrastructure ecosystem, including their energy requirements. Knowledge of the energy transition, electrification, renewables and distributed energy solutions is highly regarded.
  • Experience building senior-level relationships with large enterprise customers, developers or infrastructure investors, with strong negotiation, influencing and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to work effectively where many stakeholders are involved and the work is complex.
