Job summary

ALS Coal is seeking an experienced Casual Coal Quality Tester to support Gunnedah NSW and travel to Boggabri and Maules Creek as needed. The role requires a minimum of 15 hours per week with potential for additional shifts.

You will conduct routine coal sampling, testing and data validation while maintaining safety and quality standards. Candidates should have lab or mine exposure, a can-do attitude, and be able to work independently at times.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Laboratory or mine setting is advantageous.
• Ability to work alone and unsupervised at times.
• Driver's license is required.
• Good organisation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine coal sampling and testing.
• Assist with sample preparation and analysis.
• Maintain equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
• Collaborate with team members across sites as required.
• Day to day collection of a range of production and train samples.
• Perform tests including Ash, Moisture and Total Sulphur.
• Ensure all work follows SOPs and quality standards.
• Check and validate results to ensure repeatability tolerances.
• Maintain laboratory equipment: ovens/furnaces, Leco/sulfur.
• Aim to optimise turnaround time while preserving quality.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and equipment presentation.

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Coal Tester who can work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with the flexibility to take on additional hours as needed. You must also be willing to travel to support teams at Boggabri and Maules Creek Coal

Key Responsibilities

• Conducting routine coal sampling and testing
• Assisting with sample preparation and analysis
• Maintaining equipment and adhering to safety protocols
• Collaborating with team members across different sites as required
• Day to Day Collection of a range of production and train samples
• Performing a range of preparation and analytical tests including Ash, Moisture and Total Sulphur
• Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and to agreed standard operating instructions
• Checking and validating all results to ensure that they are within repeatability tolerances
• Maintaining laboratory equipment: Ovens/Furnaces, Leco/Sulfur
• Optimising turnaround time for samples whilst ensuring the highest quality of results is achieved and maintained
• Ensuring Quality Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures are followed
• Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping and presentation of all equipment and work areas
