Job summary

Intertek is seeking an experienced 2IC Operations Manager to partner with the Operations Manager. You will lead multiple mine site laboratory operations, ensure safety, quality and performance, and drive improvements across site teams, with regular travel to client operations and sites.

You will influence commercial outcomes, supervise Site Managers and Superintendents, and champion a strong safety culture while aligning with Intertek’s global quality and service standards.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in science or related discipline.
• Extensive experience in commercial or mine-site laboratory operations.
• Minimum five years in senior operational leadership roles.
• Experience within ISO 17025 and ISO 45001 environments.
• Ability to coach and develop geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong commercial acumen including budgets, cost control, and P&L management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office and business systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and optimise multiple mine site laboratory operations across Australia.
• Ensure services meet customer expectations, contractual obligations, quality standards, and turnaround times.
• Mentor and develop Site Managers and Superintendents into high-performing teams.
• Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
• Manage site rosters to align with operations and client needs.
• Conduct regular site visits to audit and improve performance.
• Drive continuous improvements in safety, productivity and service delivery.
• Maintain compliance with Safety Management Plans, Quality Management Systems, and Safe Work Procedures.
• Build strong relationships with mining clients and stakeholders.
