Job summary

Wagma Engineering Pty. is seeking a skilled machinist capable of taking a project from drawing to finished component with direct machine programming at the controller. The role requires hands-on expertise, reading drawings, choosing tooling, and applying precise machining strategies.

Ideal candidates will have proven qualification in machining, strong experience on Mazak, Okuma and Fanuc controls, and the ability to work unsupervised to deliver high-quality components on schedule.

Job description

This role is suited to a skilled machinist who can work independently from drawing through to finished components, with the ability to program machines directly at the controller without relying on CAM support.

Key responsibilities

• CNC machine setup and operation
• Programming directly at the machine using Mazak, Okuma and Fanuc controls
• Selecting appropriate tooling and machining strategies
• Reading drawings and determining the most efficient machining process
• Proving out programs and making necessary offsets and adjustments
• Inspecting finished components to ensure they meet drawing specifications
• Working independently with minimal supervision

About you

• Recognized machinist qualifications and proven industry experience
• Strong CNC machining experience and a solid understanding of machining practices
• Ability to work unsupervised and manage jobs from start to finish
• Proven ability to program directly at the machine without CAM assistance
• Experience programming and operating Mazak, Okuma and Fanuc controllers
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Strong knowledge of tooling, work holding, feeds and speeds, and machining techniques
• Ability to set up, prove out and run CNC machines efficiently and accurately
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
• A practical, problem-solving approach and the ability to work to deadlines
• Some manual machining maybe required.
