Job summary

Category 5 Labour Management is seeking a Machinist in Gladstone, QLD on a casual 3-month roster with potential to move to a permanent direct engagement with the client. Duties include operating machining equipment on mining and heavy engineering assets, preparing defect reports, calibrations, and quality assurance duties.

Qualifications

• Experience with conventional machining practices.
• Ability to operate and maintain machining equipment.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Comply with Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements.
• Undertake machining operations on mining and heavy engineering equipment.
• Prepare reports detailing defects detected.
• Compile inspection reports including final measurements.
• Undertake and record calibrations of tooling.
• Report to Supervisor on machine performance or non-conformances.
• Perform daily maintenance of machines and tooling.
• Suggest improvements to workshop processes to lead hands/supervisor.
• Supervise apprentices assigned to them.
• Provide technical support across the organisation.
• Contribute to continual improvement of QSE management systems.

Roster: Initial 3-month casual duration with potential to move to permanent direct with the client | Working Monday to Friday, 8-hour days with some overtime available.

Location:Gladstone, QLD

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements
• Undertake Machining operations on a wide range of mining and heavy engineering equipment, including valves, pumps, rolling stock, etc
• Preparation of reports detailing defects detected
• Compiling inspection reports including final measurements
• Undertaking and recording calibrations of tooling
• Report to the Supervisor on any issues affecting machine performance, calibration issues and/or other non-conformances.
• Daily maintenance of machines and tooling
• Present ideas for improvements to workshop process to leading hand/supervisor
• Supervision of apprentices assigned to them
• Provide technical support throughout the organisation.
• Participate in the continual improvement of the Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems by giving feedback on the organisation.

Skills & Experience

• Conventional machining experience would be advantageous
• Current Drivers Licence
