Job summary

Bayside Health Alfred provides a comprehensive perfusion service for cardiac and respiratory care in Melbourne, operating across multiple sites. A Clinical Perfusionist role involves managing total body perfusion and life support equipment, with collaboration across cardiology, cardiothoracic and intensive care teams.

Applicants should hold a relevant degree, be eligible for professional fellowship, and bring experience with ECMO, Impella, IABP and VAD systems.

Qualifications

• Eligibility for membership of Australia New Zealand College of Perfusion requires a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science, or recognised equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team in an often-challenging environment, exhibiting initiative, strength of character, and facilitative qualities.
• Applicants must be possess or be eligible for a Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Perfusion.
• Familiarity with ECMO, Impellar, IABP & VAD is desirable.
• Familiarity with XVIVO Heart Assist Transport systems is desirable.
• Recency of practice with Quantum HLM and Quantum system components is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate extracorporeal perfusion equipment to support or temporarily replace cardiopulmonary function.
• Work within the Department of Perfusion and collaborate with cardiothoracic services.
• Contribute to clinical research and development projects.

Department

The Department of Perfusion at Bayside Health Alfred provides a comprehensive and state-of-the-art Perfusion Service in the treatment of cardiac and respiratory diseases, working in close collaboration with the relevant services within the Directorate of Alfred Heart & Lung (Department of Cardiothoracic & Transplantation, Department of Cardiology and Department of Respiratory Medicine) as well as with the Intensive Care and Emergency Departments. Involvement in clinical research and development projects further complements the Departmental workload.

Position Summary

To provide and be responsible for the conduct of total body perfusion and its associated life support techniques within the Cardiac Services, Alfred Hospital. A Clinical Perfusionist is a qualified person who is appropriately trained and experienced in the Physiology, Pharmacology, Technology and operation of extracorporeal perfusion equipment in any medical situation where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace a patients’ cardiopulmonary or circulatory function.
