Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service is seeking a proactive Registered Nurse to lead from the clinical floor and deliver safe, high-quality surgical nursing care across adult patients.

You will mentor junior nurses and oversee clinical education, while driving research and quality improvement projects within the surgical unit.

This role supports professional development and is aligned with CQHHS standards and values, with opportunities for postgraduate study.

About us:

We are a 36-bed inpatient unit providing surgical care to adult patients across the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service. Our team provides care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, supporting patients aged 17 years and over through their surgical journey.

We care for patients across a wide range of surgical specialties, including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Facio-maxillary and Dental (just to name a few!).

Behind every bed, procedure and patient journey is a dedicated team working together to provide safe, compassionate and high-quality surgical care.

About the role:

• Lead from the clinical floor. Be a go-to clinical resource, role model exceptional patient-centred care, support clinical decision-making and help the team deliver safe, high-quality surgical nursing care.
• Grow people and grow yourself. Create a learning culture by supporting and mentoring nurses at all stages — including our undergraduate nurses — while facilitating engaging clinical education and encouraging ongoing professional development.
• Champion education, research and improvement. Take ownership of a portfolio focused on clinical education and research, get involved in quality improvement projects, and turn evidence into practice. You'll also help develop and refresh education resources alongside the Surgical and Education teams.
• Build the future of nursing. Work autonomously, collaborate across teams and professional networks, uphold CQHHS standards and values, and explore postgraduate study at AQF Level 8 to keep your career moving forward.

About you:

• You're a Registered Nurse with current NMBA/AHPRA registration, with a relevant postgraduate certificate or diploma — or you're ready to commit to completing one within the agreed timeframe.
• Comfortable stepping up, supporting your colleagues and championing professional nursing practice. You lead with integrity, confidence and a genuine focus on doing what's best for patients, families and the team.
• Can build strong relationships across the multidisciplinary team, communicate with confidence, navigate tricky conversations, negotiate, consult and resolve conflict.
• Motivated to deliver a high-quality service and achieve great outcomes for patients and the organisation. You build connections, collaborate across teams and professional networks, and bring a positive, solutions-focused approach to improving care and supporting your colleagues.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $29,459 p.a. is comprised of:

• An hourly rate between $57.76 - $61.85 p.h.
• 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
• 17.5% leave loading
