Job summary

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services seeks a Clinical Director with at least five years of addiction treatment experience to lead our medical team within a holistic care model addressing physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

You will mentor GPs, nurses, registrars, and allied staff while ensuring governance, quality, and accreditation. This role partners with the CEO to shape medical service strategies and workforce development.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM.
  • Deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in treating clients with addiction.
  • About 5 years' experience in clinical leadership, supervision, and operational management in primary health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and culturally competent clinical care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Registrars, Nurse Manager and Dentist.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, quality improvement, and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leaders to develop and implement medical service strategies.
  • Contribute to workforce development, supervision, and clinical training.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and referral pathways.
  • Maintain highest standards of professional conduct.

Job description

We are seeking a highly experienced and culturally competent Clinical Director with at least five years’ experience in treating clients with addiction to lead and support our medical team. The Clinical Director will provide high-quality clinical care, mentorship, and clinical leadership within Winnunga’s holistic model of care — integrating physical, social, and emotional wellbeing.

This exceptionally professional and committed staff member will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Provide comprehensive and culturally competent clinical care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, General Practitioner Registrars, Nurse Manager and Dentist.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, quality improvement, and accreditation standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO, and other senior leaders to develop and implement medical service strategies.
  • Contribute to workforce development, supervision, and clinical training.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and referral pathways.

We are looking for exceptionally empathetic and resilient person who has:
  • full registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner.
  • fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM.
  • deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and cultures to ensure culturally safe interactions.
  • at least 5 years’ experience in treating clients with addiction
  • around 5 years' experience in providing clinical leadership, staff supervision, and operational management within a primary health or similar setting.
  • strong experience in primary health care, preferably within Aboriginal or community health settings.
  • proven leadership and team management experience.
  • excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including GPs, nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, and allied health professionals.
  • ability to manage competing priorities effectively with great attention to detail and accuracy.
  • deep care for integrity and professionalism in every interaction (internal and external).
