Job description

At UM, we’re building the next generation of media leaders. Our business is built on three core principles:

  • Precision
  • Possibility
  • Partnership.

These are brought to life through a culture where ambitious people can thrive, grow and make a genuine impact.

We call them UM Unicorns. Built, not born.

The Role

We're looking for a Client Partner to join the team in either Canberra or Sydney on a 12 month fixed term contract. As a Client Partner, you'll be the senior client leader across a major portfolio of business, responsible for driving client growth, commercial performance and strategic partnership. You'll build deep relationships with senior client stakeholders and work collaboratively with Strategy, Planning, Investment, Partnerships and specialist business units to ensure clients receive connected, innovative and commercially impactful solutions. This role requires outstanding leadership, commercial acumen, emotional intelligence and the ability to influence at the highest levels. You'll be expected to create confidence, identify growth opportunities, develop future leaders and position UM as a trusted business advisor rather than simply a media agency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead senior client relationships across a major portfolio, becoming a trusted advisor and strategic partner to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute client growth strategies, identifying opportunities to deepen relationships and expand the agency’s offering.
  • Own the commercial performance of your portfolio, including revenue, budgets, forecasting, remuneration and resource planning.
  • Bring strategic leadership to client challenges, confidently challenging thinking and ensuring recommendations are connected to meaningful business outcomes.
  • Champion planning and delivery excellence, ensuring high-quality, connected and commercially impactful work across the portfolio.
  • Lead and coach your team, creating a high-performing team culture built on accountability and growth.
  • Build strong relationships with C-suite and senior marketing stakeholders, confidently navigating complex environments and influencing strategic business decisions.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, media developments and emerging opportunities, bringing informed perspectives to clients and positioning UM as a leader in communications and marketing effectiveness.
Who Are You?
  • An experienced senior client leader with a strong background in media, communications, marketing or a related agency environment.
  • Proven experience managing significant client portfolios, building trusted relationships with senior and C-suite stakeholders.
  • A commercially minded leader with experience owning budgets, forecasting, revenue growth, P&L performance and broader commercial outcomes.
  • A strategic thinker who can move beyond campaign delivery to understand and influence broader client business challenges and opportunities.
  • A strong people leader with experience coaching, developing and empowering senior client teams and future leaders.
  • Confident operating in complex stakeholder environments, with the communication skills and gravitas to influence at the highest levels.
  • Naturally curious and proactive, with a track record of identifying growth opportunities, introducing new capabilities and finding better ways to solve client challenges.
  • A collaborative leader who brings together different teams and capabilities to create connected solutions and genuinely impactful outcomes for clients.
