Job summary

St Patrick's Parish School - Albury, part of Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga, invites applications for Learning Support Officers to join our supportive team. Qualifications

• Certificate III/IV in School Based Education Support or equivalent.

• Accreditation for Support Staff in a Catholic School or willingness to achieve.

Responsibilities

• Support students with diverse learning, behavioural, social, emotional, physical and personal care needs.
• Work under direction of teachers to implement learning programs, adjustments and individual support plans.
• Provide individual and small-group assistance within classroom and school settings.
• Support students to develop independence, confidence, positive relationships and effective learning behaviours.
• Assist with student supervision in classroom, playground, excursions and whole-school activities.
• Prepare and adapt learning resources as directed by teaching staff.
• Observe progress and provide feedback to teachers.
• Support implementation of positive behaviour and wellbeing strategies.
• Maintain confidential student records when required.
• Participate in training and professional learning.
• Follow school and CEDWW policies and child-safeguarding requirements.
• Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal.

Your New Role

The Learning Support Officer (LSO) works collaboratively with teachers and school staff to support the learning, wellbeing, participation and inclusion of students. The role assists students to access learning opportunities and engage positively in all aspects of school life.
The successful applicant will support and uphold the Catholic identity, mission and values of the school and Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW).
Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting students with diverse learning, behavioural, social, emotional, physical and personal care needs.
• Working under the direction of classroom teachers and school leaders to implement learning programs, adjustments and individual support plans.
• Providing individual and small-group assistance within classroom and school settings.
• Supporting students to develop independence, confidence, positive relationships and effective learning behaviours.
• Assisting with student supervision and participation in classroom, playground, excursion and whole-school activities.
• Preparing and adapting learning resources as directed by teaching staff.
• Observing student progress and providing relevant feedback to teachers.
• Supporting the implementation of positive behaviour and wellbeing strategies.
• Maintaining accurate and confidential student records when required.
• Participating in relevant training, meetings and professional learning.
• Following all school and CEDWW policies, procedures and child-safeguarding requirements.
• Undertaking other duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Principal.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A Certificate III or IV in School Based Education Support, Education Support, Disability Support or a related field is desirable.
• Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational or care setting would be advantageous.
• Current First Aid, CPR, anaphylaxis and asthma qualifications are desirable, or a willingness to obtain them.
• A current Working with Children Check and compliance with all CEDWW employment and child-safeguarding requirements are essential.
• Accreditation for Support Staff in a Catholic School (Category A, Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead in Systemic Catholic Schools, Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga) or willing to achieve.
• Successful candidate to undergo a National Criminal History Check
