Job summary

WorkCover Queensland is seeking a Claims Liability Advisor to determine high-risk workers' compensation claims by gathering evidence and interpreting legislation. You will communicate outcomes, resolve escalations and tailor your approach to each claim.

You will also strengthen capability across the New Claims team through coaching, feedback and peer reviews, sharing expertise and contributing to reviews as a senior officer. This is a senior, impact-driven role within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Experience in workers' compensation or liability claims is highly regarded.

The Opportunity

As a Claims Liability Advisor, you'll determine critical, high-risk and sensitive workers' compensation claims by gathering and analysing evidence, interpreting legislation and applying sound judgement to reach timely, defensible decisions. You'll communicate determination outcomes, resolve challenging customer escalations and tailor your investigation and decision-making approach to the circumstances of each claim.

You'll also play a central role in strengthening capability across the New Claims team. Through coaching, buddying, quality assessments and clear feedback, you'll support your peers to improve their technical reasoning and Reasons for Decision. This is a highly connected role where you'll share expertise, test ideas with colleagues, challenge thinking constructively and contribute to review activities as a senior officer.

About You

You're an outgoing, confident and engaging communicator who builds rapport quickly and enjoys working closely with others. You bring highly developed critical thinking, evidence assessment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and explain complex decisions clearly in writing and conversation. Experience in workers' compensation, personal injury, liability, legal services or insurance will be highly regarded. Experience in another legislation-based environment, such as regulation or policing, may also be relevant where it demonstrates strong investigation, legislative interpretation and decision-writing capability.

You'll be comfortable managing complex conversations, supporting vulnerable customers and balancing the needs of different stakeholders while remaining professional and empathetic. You actively share knowledge, invite different perspectives and give constructive feedback to help the team reach consistent, high-quality decisions. Relevant qualifications in legal, allied health, insurance or a related field are highly regarded, and personal injury management qualifications are desirable.
