Job summary

Brunel is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Design Lead to drive the production and management of design deliverables for high voltage T&D projects in Australia. You will oversee studies through to detailed design, with governance and quality reviews.

You will mentor drafters, lead design reviews, manage budgets and schedules, and build strong client relationships while ensuring compliance with local codes and client standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering from a recognised institution.
• 7+ years’ experience delivering civil and structural design for utility substations or large-scale renewable energy and T&D projects.
• Hands-on experience with foundations, poles, gantries, and transmission line, lattice tower and monopole design.

Responsibilities

• Deliver detailed civil and structural design, calculations, modelling and design reports.
• Design footings, foundations, support structures, poles and gantries.
• Oversee site investigation work, including geotechnical, soil resistivity and route surveys.
• Support procurement engineering: RFQs, tender design, specifications and drawing reviews.
• Ensure compliance with client standards, project specifications and local codes.
• Review drawings, provide red-line markups and mentor design drafters.
• Lead Safety in Design and design risk management.
• Run internal and cross-discipline design reviews and quality checks.
• Manage design budgets, schedules and document control.
• Drive value engineering, innovation and continuous improvement.
• Build strong client relationships and advise senior management.

Our client are delivering renewable energy infrastructure across the APAC region. Their teams provide design, engineering, equipment supply and project engineering for transmission and distribution lines, substations, solar farms, wind farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The role

You’ll lead the production and management of civil and structural design deliverables for high voltage T&D projects, from studies and tender designs through to detailed design, review and verification. You’ll also take on design management, engineering governance and quality reviews.
