Job summary

Mildura Rural City Council is offering a Civil Construction trainee position to undertake Certificate III Civil Construction (Plant Operations) while you work and learn on the job. The role provides on-the-job training, a wage above the apprentice rate, a nine-day fortnight, and a pathway to a permanent full-time position upon completion of the traineeship.

Applicants must be prepared to attend trade school and meet essential competencies.

Qualifications

• Applicants must have held a Victorian P1 car driver’s licence for 12 months or interstate equivalent and be willing to upskill and obtain a heavy rigid truck licence.
• Genuine interest in civil works and mechanically minded.
• Ability and commitment to undertake and complete all aspects of training associated with traineeship.
• Ability to attend trade school, and/or accredited training provider within designated hours.
• Availability and willingness to undertake shift work or additional hours as required.
• Demonstrated ability to follow direction and show initiative.
• Basic knowledge of civil construction, plant and equipment.
• Basic knowledge of OH&S practices and principles associated with Works and Infrastructure.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Hold a current satisfactory Police Check or willing to obtain one prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking training both on the job and at trade school within the Works and Infrastructure field to obtain Certificate III Civil Construction (Plant Operations) Qualification.
• Providing quality construction and maintenance to sealed/unsealed road network, drainage, footpaths, kerb and channel and associated infrastructure throughout the municipality in accordance with adopted practices, procedures and standards.

Job description

Work and be paid while completing your Certificate III in Civil Construction. This position is paid above apprentice wage with the opportunity to move into a permanent full time position at the completion of the apprenticeship. With the benefit of a nine day fortnight and on the job training this position has plenty to offer.

In conjunction with SMGT, Mildura Rural City Council currently have the opportunity for a Civil Construction apprentice to join their team.

Position Objectives

The Trainee will be responsible for:

• Undertaking training both on the job and at trade school within the Works and Infrastructure field to obtain Certificate III Civil Construction (Plant Operations) Qualification.


• Providing quality construction and maintenance to sealed/unsealed road network, drainage, footpaths, kerb and channel and associated infrastructure throughout the municipality in accordance with adopted practices, procedures and standards.
