Job summary

City of Monash is seeking a Circular Economy Lead to develop and deliver the Council's Circular Economy and Waste Strategy, prioritising waste avoidance, reduction and resource recovery. You will work with community, industry and government partners to set targets, implement practical initiatives and advocate at state and national levels.

The role requires advanced knowledge of circular economy principles, stakeholder influence and strong data analysis. A Victorian Driver's licence is required.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in sustainability or circular economy, or equivalent experience.
• Victorian Driver's Licence.
• Satisfactory National Police Check.
• Working with Children Check (if applicable).
• Pre-employment checks may be required depending on role requirements.
• Experience engaging with Councillors, executives and government partners.

Job description

Lead Monash's shift to a circular economy. Drive waste avoidance and resource recovery through strategy, partnerships and advocacy.

Sustainable Monash, within the City Services Division, delivers Council's sustainability, waste and resource recovery services. The team leads Council's response to climate change and its transition to a circular economy.

About the Position

As Circular Economy Lead, you will develop and deliver Council's Circular Economy and Waste Strategy, prioritising waste avoidance, waste reduction, resource recovery and the use of recycled-content materials. Working across Council and with community, industry and government partners, you will set measurable targets, deliver practical initiatives and lead advocacy to the Victorian and Australian Governments.

Skills and Experience

• Advanced knowledge of circular economy principles, waste avoidance, resource recovery and sustainable procurement
• Proven experience developing, delivering and evaluating circular economy or waste strategies
• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including Councillors, executives and the community
• Strong data analysis and evaluation skills, including setting baselines, targets and measurable outcomes.
• Develop collaborative relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and build the capacity of council and the community to implement a circular economy approach to managing waste and materials.

Requirements

Qualifications in sustainability or circular economy, or lesser qualifications with relevant professional experience in the subject matter.
