You will design engaging, well-sequenced Chinese programs and help shape how the language is taught and celebrated, building traditions that will endure as the school grows.

Qualifications

• Tertiary teaching qualification specialising in Chinese
• Fluency in Chinese and knowledge of how languages are learned
• Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and evidence-informed teaching practice
• Ability to design high-quality learning for diverse strengths and needs
• Understanding of inquiry-based approaches to learning
• Strong relationship-building with students, families and colleagues
• Collaborative, reflective approach and curiosity about educational research

Responsibilities

• Design and teach Chinese programs aligned with the Australian Curriculum: Languages (Chinese).
• Build students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills (Pinyin, characters, tones).
• Balance explicit teaching with inquiry, dialogue, play and real-world language use.
• Help students understand Chinese-speaking cultures and connect to their identity.
• Get to know each learner and tailor teaching to challenge and support.
• Use diagnostic, formative and summative assessments to guide next steps and report to families.
• Create a warm classroom culture where thinking is visible and every student belongs.
• Collaborate with colleagues and Diverse Learning Team on planning and professional learning.
• Contribute to College life including Chapel, assemblies, House events, camps and languages club.
