Job summary

UnitingCare is seeking a Children's Counsellor for the Family Law Service in Caboolture. The role focuses on counselling children and young people affected by parental separation and high conflict, including domestic and family violence.

You will provide assessment, individual and group counselling, and linkages to supportive services. Advantageous are a Bachelor qualification in a human services field and membership eligibility in a professional body.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant human services field with membership or eligible membership of a professional body preferred.
  • Significant relevant experience in child counselling or family services is desirable.
  • Current driver's license and Blue Card for Child Related Employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality age-appropriate counselling to children and young people under 18 years.
  • Conduct assessments, individual and group counselling, psycho-education and therapeutic supports.
  • Connect families with other services through referrals and collaborations.
  • Work within child protection frameworks and manage risk and safety planning.
  • Contribute to a supportive FaDS team environment in Caboolture.

Employment Term: Maximum Term, Part-Time (4 days per week), ending 30 June 2027

Location: Caboolture

Remuneration: $53.43 + Super + NFP Salary Packaging

Your part in our UnitingCare team

We are seeking a skilled, knowledgeable passionate and experienced Child Counsellor to work in our Supporting Children After Separation Service within our Family Law Services suite of services in Caboolture, Moreton Bay.

This position has a primary focus of working with children and young people and providing specialised counselling to children, young people who are experiencing impacts from parental separation and high conflict including domestic and family violence.

You will provide a range of high-quality age-appropriate interventions including assessment; individual and group counselling; and psycho-education and therapeutic supports to children and young people (under 18 years) who are experiencing difficulties related to family relationships and changes in family structure. The position also plays a key role in connecting children and their families with other relevant services through effective referrals and collaborations.

What makes a difference for us?
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Bachelor) in a relevant human services field, with membership or eligible membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. AASW, APS, PACFA Member Association) preferred and significant relevant experience
  • Excellent counselling, therapeutic and interpersonal skills including knowledge of evidence based therapeutic interventions
  • Demonstrated assessment skills, including therapeutic assessment, crisis intervention, risk assessment and safety planning.
  • An understanding of the impact of trauma on children and young people and the components of working within a child protection framework.
  • Significant knowledge in the area of high conflict, domestic and family violence and impacts on children and family
  • Great communication skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Blue Card for Child Related Employment
  • Current Driver's License
