An application made for this job — a tailored resume and cover letter that speak straight to the posting.
Private Advertiser in Australia seeks a Chief Remote Pilot to lead the ReOC application and establish the operations framework for RPAS programs across defence, government and commercial sectors.
You will author the Operations Manual, design the authorisation pathways and SORA-based risk assessments, and build a safety culture with audit-ready records, while coordinating with CASA during certification and surveillance.
We are an Australian uncrewed systems company building UAS capability for defence, government and commercial programs — and we are building it from the certificate up.
We take an engineering approach to flight operations: systems-led in how we plan, authorise and record every sortie, and deliberate about building infrastructure that scales rather than processes rebuilt for each job. We are investing in the systems layer from the outset — digital authorisation workflows, competency and currency tracking, automated flight records and audit-ready compliance data.
We are establishing a new Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Operator's Certificate (ReOC) and are seeking the Chief Remote Pilot who will be nominated on that application.
You will not inherit someone else's Operations Manual — you will write it. You will define the authorisation pathways, the competency and endorsement architecture, the safety management system, the occurrence and just-culture reporting framework, and the BVLOS and SORA strategy that determines how far the operation can go. You will work directly with CASA through the application and into initial surveillance.
Be clear-eyed about the shape of the work: the first phase is certification, documentation and regulatory engagement. The flying follows.
Act as the nominated Chief Remote Pilot on the ReOC application and hold the statutory responsibilities of the role under the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Part 101 once certified.
Author, submit and maintain the Operations Manual and associated flight documentation.
Establish and maintain the safety management system, including occurrence, incident and near-miss reporting, investigation and corrective action.
Design the flight authorisation framework, including risk assessment processes and Specific Operations Risk Assessments (SORA) for BVLOS and complex operations.
Maintain oversight of all flight operations conducted under the ReOC, ensuring compliance with the Operations Manual, Standard Operating Procedures and CASA conditions.
Establish and oversee the training, competency assessment and currency framework for all Remote Pilots and Senior Remote Pilots operating under the ReOC.
Approve pilot endorsements, platform authorisations and progression between pilot classifications.
Build and maintain the pilot competency register and ensure all flight crew records are current and audit-ready.
Support rostering and crew allocation in conjunction with the Remote Operations Manager to ensure adequate coverage across concurrent operations.
Mentor and provide technical leadership to Senior Remote Pilots and Remote Pilots.
Work alongside engineering and software teams to ensure operational systems serve the safety case.
Your credentials form part of the ReOC application, so the following are essential:
Current Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with category endorsements.
Demonstrated eligibility under CASA requirements to be nominated as Chief Remote Pilot, including the required aeronautical experience.
Substantial experience operating remotely piloted aircraft systems in a commercial, defence or government context.
Ability to hold appropriate security clearance or undergo vetting for defence-related engagements.
We would also like to see:
Prior involvement in a ReOC application, Operations Manual authorship or comparable regulatory certification work.
Experience in a Chief Remote Pilot, Senior Remote Pilot or equivalent safety-accountable aviation role.
Experience managing or mentoring a multi-pilot workforce across concurrent operations.
Experience with BVLOS operations and SORA-based risk assessment.
Strong working knowledge of aviation safety management principles and just-culture reporting.
High attention to detail and sound judgement under operational pressure.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise with regulators, clients and internal stakeholders.
