Job summary

Office of Parliamentary Counsel in Canberra is seeking a senior People leader to shape and deliver our people strategy, attracting, developing and retaining a high-performing workforce aligned to our legislative and strategic objectives.

You will lead the People Team, deliver contemporary HR practices, advise executives on wellbeing, safety, engagement and capability, and ensure compliance with APS-wide policies and legislation.

• Ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple urgent priorities and complex matters.
• Experience developing and implementing workplace strategies and providing high‑level HR advice.

This role is responsible for leading OPC’s people strategy and team to ensure the organisation attracts, develops, engages and retains a high-performing workforce capable of delivering our legislative and strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• You will have experience of effectively working with relevant legislation, policy and procedures, and an ability to find and deliver innovative solutions within the people management function.
• proven track record of delivering programs and initiatives, particularly in the areas for which the position is responsible.
• Lead the People Team, and the delivery of comprehensive, contemporary and compliant human resource management practices, ensuring OPC meets its obligations under relevant legislation and APS-wide employment policies and frameworks.
• Support the executive to manage key people matters, including wellbeing, safety, engagement, capability, attraction and retention, ensuring opportunities are leveraged and risks managed.

What you need

• The ideal candidate will bring experience of leadership in human resources and a strategic focus, combined with an ability to successfully deliver agency wide programs.
• Your capabilities will include planning, prioritisation and people management, along with influential communication and a proven ability to manage a range of urgent priorities and complex matters.
