Job summary

The Health Professional Councils Authority, an executive agency of the NSW Ministry of Health, seeks an experienced nursing/midwifery leader to serve as Principal Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Complaints and Risk. You will lead risk assessment and complaints management to support safe practice and robust regulatory decision making.

You will report to the Executive Officer, provide expert guidance to the Nursing Midwifery Council and regulatory staff, and guide a team through complex, high-risk

Qualifications

• Accomplished nursing or midwifery leader with strong clinical credibility and leadership capability.
• Experience regulating health practice and managing high-risk matters.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for complaints triage, risk assessment and regulatory decision support.
• Provide expert advice on complex, sensitive and high-risk matters affecting professional standards and public safety.
• Support the Council and its committees to make timely, evidence-informed decisions.
• Build relationships with practitioners, employers, professional organisations, the Ministry of Health, education providers and regulatory partners.
• Analyse trends, identify emerging risks and develop proactive strategies to improve regulatory outcomes.
• Lead service improvements to enhance the effectiveness of complaints management processes.
• Contribute to evaluation, policy development and broader regulatory practice discussions.
