Job summary

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action VIC – Melbourne VIC is seeking a senior leader to head land and fire management within the BFS portfolio. The role carries high public and media visibility and requires delivering integrated forest, fire and emergency management across Victoria.

You will lead a large, dispersed workforce, drive the risk cycle from prevention to recovery, and collaborate with Traditional Owners, emergency services and government partners to keep communities

Qualifications

• Experience in land, forest or park management.
• Experience in fire or emergency management.
• Proven leadership of large teams in high-stakes environments.
• Strong governance, risk management and accountability.
• Ability to engage with government and media.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated forest, fire and emergency management.
• Guide the full risk cycle from prevention to recovery.
• Partner across land management and emergency services.
• Drive Traditional Owner-led cultural burning and safety culture.
• Serve as public voice and spokesperson during crises.
