Job summary

The Victorian Government's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action seeks a strategic leader to head forest, land and emergency management within BFS. You will guide integrated risk management, oversee planned burning, road networks, recreation and cultural heritage, and drive a safety-first culture across a large, dispersed workforce.

As Chief Fire Officer you will shape policy, liaise with the Minister and Secretary, and act as a trusted public voice during crises, balancing

Qualifications

Experience leading large teams in complex, high-stakes environments.
Strong governance and accountability in the public sector.
Ability to manage strategic and operational risk.
Proven spokesperson skills during crises.
Knowledge of land, forest or park management is desirable.
Understanding of government levers and political acumen.

Responsibilities

Lead integrated forest, fire and emergency management across multiple jurisdictions.
Drive the full risk cycle from prevention to recovery with fuel management at the center.
Partner with land management and emergency services to keep communities safe.
Advance Traditional Owner-led cultural burning and safety culture across a dispersed workforce.
Serve as the public voice of DEECA's land and fire management during crises.
