Job summary

National Measurement Institute is seeking a Scientific Officer (S&T Level 4 or 5) in Sydney, NSW. The role supports the Chemical Reference Values team within NMI, delivering proficiency testing programs and reference materials.

Initial non-ongoing contract for 12 months with potential extension. You will assist with PT rounds, sample preparation, data analysis and technical reporting, liaising with clients and maintaining quality standards across activities.

Qualifications

• Degree in chemistry or a related discipline.
• Experience in analytical chemistry.
• Good understanding of statistics and evaluation of measurement uncertainty.
• High level skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
• Strong communication and report-writing abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the organisation of PT rounds, including preparation of homogeneous and stable PT samples, participant communication and logistics.
• Perform homogeneity analysis using routine methods.
• Assist with new PT programs and development activities to expand the program.
• Maintain measurement standards, quality systems and documentation per CRV accreditation (ISO17043/25/34).
• Engage with stakeholders and coordinate workshops and communications with participants.
• Contribute to technical reports and publications; attend conferences.
