Job summary

SGS is seeking a full-time Chemist based in Alexandria, NSW. You will perform sampling, laboratory analysis, and fieldwork, delivering timely test results that meet client specifications and regulatory standards.

You will use ICP-MS, GC-MS, and LC-MS to analyze soil, water, air, gas, and other samples while maintaining accreditation and contributing to the growth of SGS's Industrial & Environment chemistry capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in science/engineering with chemical focus.
• Several years of industry experience in analytical/industrial/ environmental chemistry.
• Strong background in analytical techniques used in chemical testing and environmental analysis.
• In-depth knowledge of chemistry and chemical analysis, both theory and practice.
• Thorough understanding of ICP-MS/GC-MS/LC-MS instrumentation and relevant standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform site sampling, laboratory analysis, and fieldwork for clients across various locations.
• Deliver independent test results that comply with standards, regulations, and client specs.
• Support clients on regulatory compliance through reliable testing services.
• Develop and expand the I&E chemistry capabilities of SGS.
• Manage and execute industrial projects with quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
• Maintain accreditation requirements (NATA ISO/IEC 17025) for key tests.
• Assist in method development, validation, and audits.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment with proper documentation.

SGS is seeking a full time Chemist to join the team in Alexandria, NSW

• Perform site sampling, laboratory analysis, and fieldwork for clients across various locations, ensuring accurate and timely results.
• Deliver independent test results that comply with relevant standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
• Support clients in determining compliance with environmental and industrial regulations through reliable testing services.
• Contribute to the development and expansion of the Industrial & Environment (I&E) business's chemistry capabilities.
• Manage and execute industrial projects, ensuring quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
• Assist in maintaining a profitable core business focused on air, gas, and industrial chemistry services.
• Using ICPMS/GCMS/LCMS to conduct analysis of soil, water, air, gas and other samples as required.
• Build and maintain good working relationships with all clients keeping the focus on customer satisfaction and growing the business.
• Review and authorisation of test results.
• Assist in method development and validation activities.
• Perform industrial and environmental chemistry work as required.
• Maintain documented methods to ensure all procedures are up to date and comply with international best practice.
• Maintain equipment as required ensuring it is correctly serviced, repaired and properly calibrated with appropriate documentation.
• Maintain NATA ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements for all key testing services.
• Perform method audits.
• Maintain an understanding of the market, competition and client requirements in Australia.
• At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.

• Bachelor of Science &/or Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)
• Several years of industry experience
• Background in analytical techniques use in chemical testing, industrial analysis, environmental analysis and occupational hygiene
• In depth knowledge both theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry and chemical analysis
• Thorough understanding of advanced analytical instrumentation such as ICPMS/GCMS/LCMS equipment and the legislation/standards applicable to the work performed.
• Technical and professional knowledge, especially air procedures and regulatory requirements
