Job summary

Metagenics, based at the APAC Head Office in Northgate, Brisbane, is recruiting a permanent full-time Analytical Chemist to perform in-house testing of physical and chemical properties of product materials in line with cGMP, BP/USP and Australian Standards.

The role reports to the Chemist Lab Supervisor, ANZ, and involves preparing test solutions, reference standards and contributing to continuous improvement in the laboratory.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Applied Science, in Chemistry, Food Technology or comparable chemical field.
• Knowledge of cGMP for Medicinal Products, GLP, Pharmacopeial testing (BP, USP) and Australian Standard Practice.
• Experience in analytical chemistry in complementary medicines - highly desired.
• Experience using UPLC/HPLC, GCFID, ICP, UV/Vis, IR and classical wet chemistry, with Waters Empower, HPLC, GC and TLC instrumentation experience- highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Carry out in-house testing of physical and chemical properties of materials.
• Prepare test solutions, reagents and reference standards.
• Ensure testing adheres to cGMP, BP/USP and Australian Standards.
• Analyse out-of-spec results and drive corrective actions.
• Maintain equipment and calibrate laboratory instruments, ensuring safety and compliance.

We are recruiting a permanent fulltime Analytical Chemist to be based at our APAC Head Office in Northgate, Brisbane.

Reporting to the Chemist Lab Supervisor, ANZ, this key role’s responsibilities will be to perform in-house testing of both the physical and chemical aspects of product materials. Complete assigned tasks by the QC Manager or Senior Analytical Chemists in adherence with methods included by cGMP for Medicinal Products, British Pharmacopoeia and Australian Standards.

Key Responsibilities include;

• Utilise wet and dry chemistry techniques to carry out the testing of physical and chemical aspects of raw materials and finished products
• Preparation of test solutions and laboratory reagents as required
• Preparation of Chemical and Herbal reference standards
• Ensure testing is performed to the standards stated in the work centre.
• Analyse Out of Specification results according to defined Chemical Laboratory procedures.
• Proactively engage in Out of Specification investigations, seeking to identify root cause and implement corrective actions, leading where appropriate.
• Work with other analysts to review peers’ analytical results.
• Proactively participate in continuous improvement projects in the laboratory.
• Proactively engage in Good Laboratory Practice.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to the calibration schedule.
• Ensure laboratory work is conducted within defined schedules and testing timeframes set by the Lab Supervisor.
• Proactively identify, assess and control hazards and risks within the laboratory.
• Work to minimise risk in laboratory activities, primarily to the health and wellbeing of staff and secondarily to product and equipment.
• Ensure compliance standards and guidelines are met and maintained.

Skills and experience
