Job summary

OzHarvest is seeking a Refettorio Chef to prepare and deliver nourishing meals using rescued ingredients, while supporting safe kitchen operations and daily programs for the community restaurant, The Refettorio.

You will work with the kitchen team and volunteers, ensuring high standards, food safety, and warm, dignified hospitality for vulnerable community members.

Qualifications

  • 2 years’ full time experience in hospitality incl. approved professional cookery training.
  • Experience as working chef (Chef De Partie / Station Cook / Restaurant Cook).
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Food Safety Handling training and understanding OzHarvest Safe Food Handling Policy.
  • Valid Police Check, WWC check or willingness to obtain.

Job description

OzHarvest is a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to ‘Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need. Through our education programs and our advocacy work, we hope to inspire others to change behaviour and help reach the national target of halving food waste by 2030.

About the role:

The primary role of the Refettorio Chef is to prepare and deliver high-quality, nourishing meals using rescued ingredients, while supporting the smooth and safe operation of the Refettorio kitchen. The role works collaboratively with the kitchen team, volunteers and key stakeholders to deliver daily programs and dining experiences that reflect OzHarvest’s commitment to reducing food waste, creating connection and providing warm, dignified hospitality to vulnerable community members.

Personal Specifications
Qualifications:
  • 2 years’ full time experience in hospitality inclusive of approved professional cookery training
  • Previously employed as a working chef, Chef De Partie, Station Cook/Chef or Restaurant Cook/Chef
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Food Safety Handling trained and understanding of the OzHarvest Safe Food Handling Policy
  • Valid and current Police Check. WWC check or willingness to obtain
