Job summary

BuildRight Construction AU in Australia is seeking a qualified and experienced Sous Chef to take the next step in their culinary career within a premium dining environment. The role requires genuine commercial kitchen experience, strong leadership, and a proven understanding of Asian or Asian fusion cuisine.

You will work alongside senior culinary leadership to contribute to menu development, kitchen performance, food quality and team development.

Qualifications

  • Trade-qualified Chef with recognised culinary qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience as Junior Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie
  • Strong commercial restaurant kitchen experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Asian or Asian fusion cuisine
  • Good understanding of Asian ingredients, flavours and techniques
  • Proven ability to maintain quality and consistency during busy services
  • Experience supervising, training or mentoring kitchen team members
  • Working knowledge of ordering, stock control and kitchen inventory procedures
  • Understanding of food costing, portion control and wastage management
  • Ability to contribute to menu planning and kitchen organisation
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Professional approach to food safety, hygiene and workplace safety
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Willingness to relocate and establish a career in Australia

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily kitchen operations and coordinate an efficient service
  • Supervise and support chefs across preparation and service periods
  • Maintain consistent standards across food quality, flavour and presentation
  • Contribute creative ideas to Asian-inspired and fusion menu development
  • Work alongside senior chefs to introduce new dishes, techniques and culinary concepts
  • Train, mentor and develop junior chefs and kitchen team members
  • Monitor kitchen preparation to ensure dishes are produced accurately and consistently
  • Coordinate with front-of-house teams to maintain smooth service and guest satisfaction
  • Manage kitchen communication and workflow during busy trading periods
  • Assist with ordering, stock rotation, inventory management and wastage reduction
  • Monitor food costs and contribute to effective cost-control practices
  • Assist with menu planning, recipe development and portion control
  • Support staff scheduling and allocation of kitchen duties
  • Maintain strict food safety, hygiene and workplace safety standards
  • Ensure the kitchen remains clean, organized and professionally operated
  • Contribute to a positive kitchen culture based on teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Support senior management in achieving operational and guest service objectives
