Job summary

Westpac is seeking an AI Engineering Manager in Sydney to lead a team of AI Engineers, shape engineering practices, and scale AI-enabled products.

You will partner with senior leaders to develop reusable capabilities, adopt AI-first SDLC, and uplift capabilities across AI, software, data, DevSecOps, testing and observability, while fostering a high-performance and inclusive culture.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in modern software engineering and enterprise technology delivery.
• Experience leading engineers in large-scale, complex environments.
• Proven capability building and scaling engineering practices, standards and delivery frameworks.
• Experience with AI, GenAI, agentic systems, cloud platforms, DevSecOps and modern engineering tooling.
• Strong coaching and talent development skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of AI Engineers.
• Partner with the Chief Engineer and senior technical leaders to shape AI engineering strategy and execution.
• Build reusable agentic workflows, engineering patterns, templates, guard‑rails and golden paths.
• Drive adoption of AI‑first software development lifecycle practices.
• Uplift engineering capability across AI, software engineering, data, DevSecOps, testing, observability and operational excellence.
• Create scalable engineering standards, practices and operating rhythms.
• Foster a high‑performing, inclusive and psychologically safe team culture.
