Job summary

Australian Fair Work Ombudsman in Sydney seeks an experienced CFO to lead the newly created Finance Branch, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial compliance across the agency.

You will provide strategic financial advice to the Corporate Board, drive reform, build capability, manage data assets, and partner with senior leaders to ensure sustainable service delivery and prudent resource allocation.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA with substantial financial management experience in government or statutory bodies.
• Experience leading Commonwealth/State financial management and services.
• Proven ability to lead finance teams to deliver high‑quality outcomes in complex environments.
• Strong judgement, initiative and professionalism in managing complex issues.
• Ability to manage data assets, privacy, and data risk within finance.

Responsibilities

• Provide authoritative financial advice to the Corporate Board and support strategic resource allocation.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and the financial compliance framework.
• Drive financial reform and capability uplift across the agency with best practice.
• Build financial capability of senior leaders and manage activity-based budgeting.
• Partner with senior leaders to align financial planning with agency outcomes.
• Lead the Finance Branch with integrity and foster stakeholder relationships.
