Job summary

Green Leaves Early Learning is seeking a part-time Chef to plan menus for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, prepare nutritious meals respecting dietary needs, and manage the kitchen with stock, budgeting and shopping. You will ensure food safety and mentor a kitchen hand, while collaborating with Educators on culinary classes and sustainable practices.

The role supports a nutrition-forward program and offers opportunities for development within our eco-friendly settings.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is required.
  • Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willing to obtain).
  • Current SA Working with Children’s Check (or willing to obtain).
  • Current SA Child Protection Training (or willing to obtain).
  • Current HLTAID012 First Aid Certificate and CPR (or willing to obtain).
  • National Child Safety Training (or willing to obtain).
  • National Police Clearance obtained in the last 6 months (or willing to obtain).
  • Availability to work from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday (part-time, 5 days).

Responsibilities

  • Plan an interesting and exciting menu for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and purees, respecting dietary requirements for babies and children.
  • Manage kitchen autonomously with stock rotation, budgeting and shopping.
  • Ensure highest level of food safety and compliance with Council Authority requirements and Green Leaves standards.
  • Mentor a kitchen hand to deliver high quality food and service.
  • Provide culinary classes with Educators for young learners.
  • Collaborate with our National Nutritional Program Partner on sustainable practices.

Day to day, in this role, you can enjoy:

  • Use your mastery knowledge of cooking to plan an interesting and exciting menu for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old
  • Preparing a wide variety of nutritious meals and purees, as well as working to dietary requirements for babies and children
  • Confidently managing the kitchen autonomously, ensuring effective stock rotation, budgeting, and shopping for your kitchen
  • Ensuring the highest level of food safety and supervision in accordance with the Food and Council Authority requirements and Green Leaves Early Learning Standards
  • Mentoring and guiding a kitchen hand in a professional environment, to deliver the highest quality of food and service
  • Providing thoughtful culinary classes alongside our Educators to our littlest learners
  • Collaborate with our National Nutritional Program Partner, with a focus on environmentally sustainable practices within our eco-friendly settings.

About You:
  • At least a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
  • Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willing to obtain)
  • A current SA Working with Children's Check (or willing to obtain)
  • Current SA Child Protection Training (or willing to obtain)
  • Current HLTAID012 First Aid Certificate and CPR (or willing to obtain)
  • National Child Safety Training (or willing to obtain)
  • National Police Clearance obtained in the last 6 months (orwilling to obtain)
  • The availability to work from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday, this is a part time position 5 days a week
