Job summary

Hudson Institute of Medical Research – Melbourne VIC is seeking a Production Technician to join the Cell Therapies platform. The role involves aseptic manipulation of human cells and blood components in an ISO 8 cleanroom, ensuring GMP and ISO15189 compliance, with responsibilities spanning kit prep, documentation, equipment operation, and ongoing quality systems.

Ideal candidates hold a Diploma or Degree in Science and have regulated-lab experience, with flexibility for after-hours or weekends

Qualifications

• Comfortable with working in a regulated laboratory (e.g. NATA ISO15189, ISO17025, ISO20387 or similar) and hospital setting.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks precisely and consistently.
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with a shared focus on patient care.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or after-hours as needed to support urgent processing and patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct supervised aseptic manipulation and processing of human cells and blood components in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment, adhering to NATA and GMP requirements.
• Prepare processing kits, materials, and sterile equipment for production processes.
• Prepare documentation prior to and post-processing.
• Perform routine daily operational tasks to support the function of the HICT facility, including temperature monitoring, inventory/material control, and facility cleaning.
• Operate and perform basic maintenance on laboratory and processing equipment (e.g. centrifuges, Biological Safety Cabinets and cryogenic systems).
• Complete and maintain accurate quality system documentation, including batch records, forms, logs, and reports in accordance with GMP and ISO15189 standards.
• Perform facility environmental monitoring, equipment calibrations, checks and scheduled maintenance activities.
• Use laboratory software systems such as Quality Management Systems (QMS) and equipment monitoring platforms and other IT office tools (e.g. Google Suite, Microsoft Suite).
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing processes and operational efficiency.
• Work occasional flexible hours, including after-hours or weekends, depending on production schedules and clinical requirements.
