About the International Eucharistic Congress (Eucharist28)
Eucharist28 is a global event of the Catholic Church centred on the Eucharist. Sydney will host the Congress in 2028, bringing together tens of thousands of people from around the world and hundreds of thousands of Australians.
The 2028 Congress marks the centenary of Australia’s first International Eucharistic Congress, held in Sydney in 1928. Last hosted in Australia in 1973, it will return Sydney to the centre of the global Catholic Church and seek to renew Christian life and participation in the Church’s mission.
As coordinator of the Congress, the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney is seeking an experienced Catholic formation professional to help dioceses, parishes, schools and other communities engage in the spiritual journey to Eucharist28.
About the Role
The Catechesis and Engagement Lead helps parishes, schools, Catholic groups and movements, and dioceses prepare for and participate meaningfully in Eucharist28, combining community engagement with the delivery of catechetical and formation resources.
Reporting to the Director, Formation & Programming, you will build relationships with Church leaders and local communities, understand their needs, and support them to bring preparatory initiatives to life and plan their participation in Congress week. You will maintain regular communication, facilitate consultation and connect communities with relevant resources, information and practical support.
Working closely with the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation, Archdiocesan teams and national Church stakeholders, you will coordinate and curate resources that are faithful to Church teaching, pastorally responsive and accessible. You will develop participation pathways, coordinate working groups, manage resource schedules and budgets, and support translation and cultural adaptation.
Interstate and regional travel is required to meet with dioceses, Catholic Education Offices, schools, parishes, Catholic groups and movements, and other stakeholders.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position until 27 October 2028, based at Polding Place, 75 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.
About You

Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following key requirements:
Your impact will be seen in high-quality catechetical resources, strong engagement across Catholic communities and meaningful participation by diverse groups in the journey to Eucharist28. You will bring sound judgement, careful organisation and a collaborative approach to this national formation program.
Applications should be sent in confidence to recruitment@sydneycatholic.org and should include a resume and cover letter addressing the requirements of the role.
Applicants must have unrestricted work rights in Australia.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and must have a current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one.
Only candidates whose applications will be progressed will be contacted.
