Job summary

Moonee Valley City Council – Moonee Ponds VIC is seeking Casual Venue Technicians to support performances at the Clocktower Centre. You will set up and operate lighting, sound and AV equipment, while delivering friendly customer service to performers and hirers.

Ideal candidates have live-event tech experience, strong communication, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams. Rosters include mornings, days and evenings, with on-site duties in a theatre setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a performing arts venue or similar live event environment.
• Practical skills in setting up and operating lighting, sound and AV systems.
• Understanding of staging, scenery and flying systems is highly regarded.
• Strong customer service focus and effective communication.
• Ability to work collaboratively, prioritise competing demands and remain calm under pressure.
• Available for rostered shifts Monday–Sunday, including early mornings, daytime and evenings.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate lighting, sound, staging, mechanical and audiovisual equipment to meet the requirements of performances, events and functions.
• Assist with technical maintenance and repairs to venue equipment.
• Interpret event and room requirements and carry out function and meeting room set-ups under the direction of the Supervising Technician.
• Provide professional, friendly and responsive customer service to a diverse range of clients, performers, hirers and patrons.
• Work collaboratively with the Technical and wider Operations teams to ensure the smooth delivery of events.
• Follow relevant workplace health and safety procedures, including emergency evacuation requirements, to maintain a safe environment for staff, patrons and venue users.
• Assist with offsite activities as required.

• Salary commencing at $49.88 per hour, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.

The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking Casual Venue Technicians to support the delivery of a diverse range of performances, events and functions at the Clocktower Centre. Working within our Performing Arts team, you will provide technical support across our 500-seat proscenium arch theatre, studio, creative spaces and function rooms. You will help deliver high-quality events by setting up and operating lighting, sound, staging and audiovisual equipment, while providing friendly and flexible customer service to performers, hirers and venue users.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a performing arts venue or a similar live event environment, with practical skills in setting up and operating technical equipment such as stage lighting, sound and audiovisual systems. An understanding of staging, scenery and theatrical flying systems will be highly regarded. You will bring a strong customer service focus, effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively, prioritise competing demands and remain calm under pressure. You will be comfortable working under supervision while using your initiative to support clients and ensure safe, successful events. Relevant technical qualifications and a Test and Tag licence, White Card or Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence will be well regarded. You must be available to work rostered shifts across Monday to Sunday, including early mornings, daytime and evenings.
